Tikal, a one-year-old jaguar, guards the ice cake given to him and his sister, Maderas, on Friday morning at the San Diego Zoo. The tiered cake, made of ice, frozen blood and bamboo to support the layers, was made by animal care staff at the Zoo to celebrate the first birthday of cubs. Unfortunately for his sister, Tikal wouldn’t share any of the frozen treat with her and even tried to keep his mother, Nindiri, away. However, mom persisted and was able to snack on the frozen treat with her son.
